SKC "Sunrise Kitesurf Community" was setup by a group of people with a love for kitesurfing, Sunrise beach and Muizenberg. The locals have come together to offer kitesurfing enthusiasts of all levels to come learn, develop your skills or just have fun. SKC has been providing professional kitesurfing lessons at Sunrise Beach in Muizenberg and surrounding kite spots in the Western Cape, South Africa for the past 5 years.

Beginner Kitesurf

Get an idea of what kiting is all about. Learn about what conditions are needed. Learn about hazards. Learn about the wind window. Fly a trainer kite. Kite control and exercises. Setup and breakdown of a ILE kite (inflatable leading edge). Safety systems. Who is this course for: All complete Beginners and anyone wanting to know more about kitesurfing. One day's teaching is 3 hours and we recommend 3 days to complete the course.

Intermediate Kitesurf

Lesson break down: ILE set up and fly without control bar. Water Relaunch. Down wind body drag. Sideways body drag. Upwind body drag. Changing direction while body dragging. Board Recovery. Body drag with you board. Self launch and land demonstration. Self Rescue. Who is this course for: This course is for you if you have complete an intro course. Now you are at the stage in your progression where you need to learn kite control in the water, and how generate a steady power out of your kite. One day's teaching is 3 hours and we recommend 3 days to complete the course.

Advanced Kitesurf

Lesson break down: The power stroke. Get the board on you feet. Steady pull and balance in the water. Water start. Control speed and edge. Come to a controlled stop. Changing direction without stopping. Who is this lesson for: It's time to get you on the board. You are competent in the water, can successfully do all the body dragging exercises and are now comfortable with the kite and your piloting skills. This course is designed to get you independently riding. On completion of this course you will be comfortably riding and free to continue progressing. One day's teaching is 3 hours and we recommend 3 days to complete the course.

Private Kitesurf

Who are private lessons for: Any one of any level wanting to progress to an independent kitesurfing level, all in need of a refresher course and any one wanting to learn something specific. One day's lesson is 2 hours.

Kitesurf Guide

If you would like to explore the southern peninsular like a local book a day trip to all the hidden spots that you would never see otherwise. 5 Hours 5 spots.

Season

The summers are generally very dry, then you can expect wetter more frontal weather through the winter months.


Kitesurf locations can be found all around Cape Town – they are divided into three main areas: Table Bay, in front of the city, the Cape Peninsula’s Atlantic coast, and False Bay, which faces the Indian Ocean.

If you are here for a while then aim to head to all three areas as they all have a different flavour and vibe and will give you the full Cape Town experience.

If you haven’t been before though and you are wondering where to have your first session and wash off the journey then it has to be Big Bay. With Table Mountain and the massive oil tankers as your backdrop: you’ll know you have finally arrived in Cape Town…


Payment

  • A small deposit is required to secure your booking.
  • Your balance is due when you arrive at the beach.

Cancelling

  • To cancel go to the MyAccount section and log in or register and you can cancel from within your account.
  • Your deposit is non refundable but can be used for the same property/surf school within one year of your original booking.

What happens if the surf school cancel the Kitesurf Lessons?

In the rare occasion that conditions do not allow for the surf lesson to go ahead you will be given a full refund.
